Black Mountain Lodge Beacon August 2008

Of course, it is important to to convey an accurate impression here, so I will remind us all that nothing in Masonry should ever be placed before the duty we owe to G-d, our country, our neighbor, our family or ourselves. So, it is wise, and Masonic, to read words like "every Lodge endeavor" as meaning "within the length of our Cable Tow". And remember that the Brother who misses a Lodge function, or season, or seasons, in order to attend to the needs of his family, his profession, the service of his country or even his own needs is no less a Mason for doing so. In fact, quite the contrary.

The Lodge is the place where we learn and teach *about* Masonry, and it is the setting in which we *make* Masons, but it is not where Masonry resides. Masonry lives within us, and exemplifies itself in the manner in which we live our lives, the choices we make and the basis upon which we make them.

Whether we attend Lodge unfailingly or not at all for decades, if we conduct our lives as Masons, we are fulfilling our Masonic duty. And we are performing the finest service a Mason may perform for the fraternity. By our conduct, not our attendance records, we will demonstrate to ourselves, one another, and the world, what it means to us that we are Masons.
